FDC presidential candidate Nathan Nandala Mafabi has criticized President Museveni for neglecting Luweero District and pledged key development initiatives if elected in 2026.

Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) presidential candidate Nathan Nandala Mafabi has criticized President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni for neglecting Luweero District, an area the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) hails as its “Mecca.”

Speaking during his final rally in Kikyusa, Mafabi highlighted dusty roads, poor infrastructure, and deteriorating services in schools and health facilities as evidence of government neglect.

“Your roads are very poor, you don’t have good schools, the health facilities are worrying. This is a clear indicator that Museveni doesn’t care and doesn’t walk the talk,” Mafabi told residents.

Mafabi also held rallies in Busiika, Zirobwe, and Kikyusa in Luweero and Nakasongola before concluding in Nakasongola.

Residents in Kikyusa raised concerns about the continued detention of former FDC president Dr Kizza Besigye, land grabbing, poor market access for local produce, and delayed war veteran compensation.

Mafabi clarified that he had no role in Besigye’s arrest but pledged that, if elected president, his first action would be to release all political prisoners.

He also promised to strengthen cooperatives, establish a fruit-processing plant, and introduce a well-managed revolving fund to support local initiatives, aiming to boost the economy and livelihoods.

“It is depressing that people grow fruits like pineapples and mangoes but cannot add value, yet we still import juice. If you put me into power, I will construct a fruit-processing plant here and also work on the orange processing plant in Soroti to ensure you get some profits from your work,” Mafabi said.

In previous elections, Luweero District voters backed NUP’s Robert Kyagulanyi with 103,782 votes, while President Museveni came second with 41,166 votes, and FDC’s Patrick Oboi Amuriat trailed with 459 votes.
